Level of study
Students are unique individuals each with different levels of confidence, prior learning and motivation. For us, access to learning and progression is based on readiness, not age. Typically this course will be suited to students around 13-14 years old (Year 9) but other ages are welcome too. Get in touch if you’re unsure what level of study is right for your child.
Tutor
Tutor Dave is a qualified and experienced teacher who also holds a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Literature and Culture. He supports students to make good progress and discover the joy that comes from engaging with exciting and challenging texts. Read more about Tutor Dave here.
The TLL approach
TLL believes that education should be seen as part of overall wellbeing and personal development – not just getting ready for exams. Our live, small group tutorials mean our tutors really get to know their students and can tailor delivery to meet individual needs. By having cameras on, our students quickly build rapport with their tutor, and each other, and learn lots of ‘soft skills’ like non-verbal communication and turn taking. Read our blog about camera use to find out more. Other features of our courses include:
- Small groups – KS3 groups are a maximum of 8 students meaning a lovely atmosphere, loads of support and great rapport
- Interactive – Learner cameras and microphones are enabled so students can engage directly with the tutor and each other and develop ‘soft skills’
- Expert tuition –Our tutors are highly qualified and experienced with years of experience in schools and within Home Education
- FREE Certificate of Attendance with all topic tickets
- Affordable – very competitive pricing with no long-term contracts and no joining fees
- Weekly newsletter – our newsletter contains news about the week, links to resources, discounts, quiz questions and reminders about term dates and new topics
- Flexible learning – Students are able to join topics at any time (subject to availability), they do not have to start in Term 1 (though this is desirable) just get in touch to arrange a trial lesson.
Please note we do not make recordings of tutorials available. We focus on delivering the very best live, interactive lessons we can. We don’t want recordings to affect the delivery of great lessons, to reduce our very high levels of student attendance or dampen willingness to participate. Read this blog about our thoughts on recordings.
Joining Tutorials
It’s easy to join our tutorials!
Step 1: After checkout access your pdf ticket(s) containing the topic Zoom link
Step 2: 5-10 minutes before the start of the tutorial click the Zoom
Please note:
- Zoom – you are advised to download the Zoom app rather than use it in a web browser. If you are using it in a web browser Chrome or Firefox is recommended. Please make sure the Zoom name matches the learner’s name as we can’t admit unknown students.
- Safeguarding – we need to see all new students on camera before granting them access to any tutorials, it’s also lovely to say hello before we start (we will be in touch to arrange this).
- Readiness for learning – Students should be suitably dressed, seated at a desk/table, using a camera enabled laptop/tablet (not a phone) and without background distractions.
If you have any technical issues please get in touch and we’ll do what we can to help you get connected.
It’s important to be nice…
We treat all members of our community with respect and expect our students to do the same. We will not tolerate any abusive language or behaviour towards either students or tutors and we may remove students who behave inappropriately from any lesson without warning or refund.
