Be different, together.

Learning should be nurturingas well as academic

Our focus on live, interactive tutorials makes us…

different

We help a range of different students not learning in school learn together. We are compassionate, experienced, professionally qualified tutors who know learning is about more than watching a video; it’s about connecting. We are different, not just with what we do, but what we don’t do.
We believe we learn best when we learn…

together

We create safe and engaging spaces where children interact with us, with each other and thrive. Years of experience have taught us that learning is most effective, most enjoyable and most inspiring when it is done live and in small groups, together. Join us: Be different, together.

We’re highly qualified, experienced and skilled tutors…

PGCE, QTS & Enhanced DBS
Mental Health First Aid Trained

My unique approach to tutoring arises from my passion for the sciences, knowledge of the curricula and experiences of working in schools, NHS Mental Health research and CAMHS. I work with students to create safe and purposeful learning environments where knowledge, understanding and interpersonal relationships develop. I’ve a breadth of interests from Playstation to Gardening, Yoga to Pickleball and am currently restoring a 300 year old Georgian House near York, UK.

BA (Honours) Humanities
MA Contemporary Literature and Culture
PGCE, QTS and Enhanced DBS
Mental Health First Aid Trained

I have been working with HomeEd families since 2018 and draw not only on my experience as a teacher, but from my work as a mental wellbeing trainer to support my students. After all, we learn best when we feel happy and well-supported. I believe learning should be a lifelong process and have taught myself welding, car mechanics and web design over the last few years. My interests are wide-ranging, but I can often be found listening to my favourite podcasts or buried in a good book.

What makes us different?

It’s the things we do (and don’t do!) based on years of experience

✅ Things we do

  • Teach highly bespoke, live, interactive tutorials to small groups and 1:1s
  • Encourage the development of interpersonal skills and self-expression
  • Deliver tutorials within our subject specialisms to students aged 10-16

❌ Things we don’t do

  • Run anonymous ‘one size fits all’ webinars
  • Prevent the use of cameras and microphones
  • Pretend we can teach any subject, at any level, to any student

It may also surprise you to learn that we don’t record our tutorials.

This is a considered position based on what we believe is best for student progress based on our own observations and what they tell us themselves. Simply put, we believe recordings dampen enthusiasm for learning, suppress attendance and discourage interaction with and between students.
It’s just not our way.

Our Story

Are you sitting comfortably?

We are two friends with a shared love of learning, teaching and helping children discover the wonder of our respective subjects. We’ve both taught abroad (Nagasaki, Japan and Madrid, Spain), gained teaching qualifications (PGCEs), taught in state secondary schools in Yorkshire, England and tutored since 2018.

We’ve also both worked in Mental Health, Tutor Andy in CAMHS and in Mental Health research for the NHS (with the Chimp Paradox team) and Tutor Dave as creator and deliverer of courses and training for senior corporate teams.

We formed Tutor Led Learning in 2020 and have been delighted to work with so many wonderful children and their families since then. We are proud to have been Quality Assured by the City of York Council in 2023 and are an Approved Provider of alternative education for a broad range of learners. We also have far too many pets between us including 5 dogs, 3 cats, chickens, ducks, a peacock and a rabbit (at the time of writing!).
