This course follows the KS3 National Curriculum and can be joined at any point (subject to availability).
- Small groups – Live, online tutorials in small groups for the best learning experience – learners support and encourage each other
- Interactive – Online worksheets allow students to write and share work in tutorials and are available even outside tutorials
- Feedback – Instant feedback in Google Classroom from Tutor Dave within lessons to motivate and promote progress
- Homework – Optional homework (when applicable) to keep the learning going

Students taking this course should ideally also take the Middle Writing Course in order to cover both sides of the English curriculum. Both sides of English complement each other and both rely on the skills developed in the other.
Level of study
Students are unique individuals each with different levels of confidence, prior learning and motivation. For us, access to learning and progression is based on readiness, not age. Typically this course will be suited to students around 12-13 years old (Year 8) but other ages are welcome too. Get in touch if you’re unsure what level of study is right for your child.
Tutor
Tutor Dave is a qualified and experienced teacher who also holds a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Literature and Culture. He supports students to make good progress and discover the joy that comes from engaging with exciting and challenging texts. Read more about Tutor Dave here.
The TLL approach

Please note we do not make recordings of tutorials available. We focus on delivering the very best live, interactive lessons we can. We don’t want recordings to affect the delivery of great lessons, to reduce our very high levels of student attendance or dampen willingness to participate. Joining Tutorials
It’s easy to join our tutorials!
Step 1: After checkout access your pdf ticket(s) containing the topic Zoom link
Step 2: 5-10 minutes before the start of the tutorial click the Zoom
Please note:
- Zoom – you are advised to download the Zoom app rather than use it in a web browser. If you are using it in a web browser Chrome or Firefox is recommended. Please make sure the Zoom name matches the learner’s name as we can’t admit unknown students.
- Safeguarding – we need to see all new students on camera before granting them access to any tutorials, it’s also lovely to say hello before we start (we will be in touch to arrange this).
- Readiness for learning – Students should be suitably dressed, seated at a desk/table, using a camera enabled laptop/tablet (not a phone) and without background distractions.

We treat all members of our community with respect and expect our students to do the same. We will not tolerate any abusive language or behaviour towards either students or tutors and we may remove students who behave inappropriately from any lesson without warning or refund.
